Dear Collegues,

With a sense of deep sadness, we inform the readers of the MJHID of the death of professor Eligio Pizzigallo underwent on November 28, 2021. He leaves his wife Patrizia, their sons Angelo and Donata, and their grandchildren, Ludovica, Leonardo and Sebastiano.
Prof. Eligio Pizzigallo, former Professor of Infectious Diseases at Chieti University, has been a co-founder of this Journal. Born in Martina Franca, Puglia, Italy, he took his degree in Medicine in 1967 at the Catholic University in Rome. After his degree, he became a resident physician at the infectious wards of Policlinico Gemelli, where he attained the degree of attending and then Associate Professor of Infectious Disease. In 1999, he transferred to Chieti University, where he became a full professor of Infectious Disease. As the Director of the School of Specialization in Infectious Diseases and of the Division of Infectious Diseases of Santissima Annunziata Hospital, Chieti, trained many infectious disease doctors for thirty years.
His best research is about Hepatitis C, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and its relationship with the immune system and chronic EBV infection.
